Crime Review for th= e Month of  March  2010

 

 

1.  Murder

 

  &nb= sp;            = During the month under review 5 cases of murder for gain and 163 other murders were reported as against 7 cases of murder for gain and 142 cases of other murde= rs in the previous month.  In comparison 6 cases of murder for gain and 137 cases of other murders were reported during the corresponding month of last year.

3. Robbery

  &nb= sp;            = 163 cases of Robbery were reported during the current month as against 150 case= s in the previous month and 157 cases in the corresponding month of last year.  Out of 163 cases, 37 cases have be= en detected.

4.  Burglary

  &nb= sp;            = Under Burglary, 427 cases were reported during the month as against 479 cases in = the previous month and 447 cases during the corresponding month of last year.  Out of 427 cases, 49 cases have be= en detected.

5.   Theft

   &n= bsp;         Under theft, 1686 cases were report= ed during the month as against 1493 cases in the previous month and 1629 cases= in the corresponding month of last year.  Out of 1686 cases,  330= cases have been detected.

8.  Crime against Women

  &nb= sp;            = 944 cases of Crime against Women were reported during the month as against 858 cases in the previous month and 705 cases in the corresponding month of last year.  Out of 944 cases, 54 ca= ses of rape have been reported during the month as against 48 cases in the previous month and        38 cases in the corresponding month of last year.  17 cases of   Dowry Death have been report= ed during the current month, as against 24 cases in the previous month and 16 cases in the corresponding month of last year.

11.  Security Cases.

991 & 1013 ca= ses u/s 109 Cr. P.C. & 110 Cr. P.C. respectively have been booked during  this month as against 596 & 357 cases in the previous month and 1166 & 1863 cases  in the corresponding month of last year.  Accused persons in 1648= cases were bound over during the current month as against 640 cases in the previo= us month and 2572 cases during the corresponding month of last year.

Under sec 109 Cr.P.C. mor= e number of cases have been booked during the current month when compared to the cas= es of previous month and less number of cases have been booked when compared to the corresponding month of last year.  Under Sec.110 Cr.P.C. more number of cases have been booked during t= he current month when compared to the cases of previous month and less cases h= ave been booked when compared to the corresponding month of last year.   In more number of cases accu= sed persons have been bound over during the current month when compared to the previous month and in less number of cases accused have been bound over when compared to the corresponding month of last year.

On 01/03/2010, some Muslim religious leaders and other members of the community had assembled at Wakf Board, Shimoga Town, to discuss about an article published on 28/02/2010 in the  Kannada daily “Kann= ada Prabha” which dwelt about the ‘Purdah’ system.  At about 1330 hrs. around 500-600 members who had assembled there, resorted to protest and went on a processi= on, they started throwing stones at Amir Ahmed circle, Gopi Circle and other places, and also torched many shops and vehicles.  The police resorted to lathi charg= e to disperse the crowd.  Curfew was clamped in the town under sec.144 Cr.P.C. by the Dy. Commissioner.  But the mob violated curfew, damag= ed police vehicles and threw stones at police personnel which resulted in inju= ries to DC, SP, ASP, DySP, CPI and several other police personnel.  The police had to resort to firing= to disperse the mob indulging in violence which resulted in the death of one S= adiq and causing grievous injury to Mohammed Zafrullah.  One person by name Abdul Latif was= also killed in the group clashes.  = In this regard around 146 rioting cases have been registered in Shimoga distri= ct.

 

Hubli-D= harwad City

On 04/03/2010, some unkno= wn miscreants had written ‘Allah’ in a derogatory way on the grave= yard wall belonging to ‘Anjuman Islam’.  The Muslim community members gathe= red in large numbers on 05/03/2010 to protest against the said incident though cur= few was clamped by the Police Commissioner.&nb= sp; At about 1800 hrs, around 2 to 3 thousand muslims gathered in front = of Kamaripet P.S. and started shouting slogans against the police.  Though the police officers tried to pacify the crowd by promising action against the culprits, the crowd did not budge and forming an unlawful assembly started throwing stones at the police and also damaged public property.  The police resorted to lathicharge and also arrested seven accused persons.  In this connection a= case has been registered at Kamaripet P.S in Cr.No.6/2010 U/s 143, 147, 148, 332, 336, 427, 353, 188 r/w 149 IPC and Sec.2(A) of  Karnataka Prevention of destructio= n and also of property Act 1981.

13.   Disposal of Cognizable offences     

  &nb= sp;            = 4590 cases are under investigation for a period of more than two years       (IPC– 4260, SLL-330).  Concerned Unit Officers should see that these cases are disposed off within the stipulated time.

14.  Road Accidents

  &nb= sp;            = During the month of March 2010, 777 fatal and 3436 non-fatal accidents were report= ed as compared to 718 fatal and 3257 non-fatal accidents in the previous month= . In comparison, 644 fatal and 3254 non-fatal accidents were reported during the corresponding month of last year.

  &nb= sp;            = There is a slight increase in the number of fatal accidents during the current mo= nth when compared to the cases of previous month and an increase when compared = to the corresponding month of last year.  There is an increase in the number of non-fatal accidents during the current month when compared to the cases of previous month and increase when compared to the corresponding month of last year.

G E N E R A L    =

      =           A.  2854 cases of property offences (c= lass I to IX) were reported during this month as against 2655 cases in the previous month and 2792 cases in the corresponding month of last year.

B.  The percentage of detection of pro= perty offences during the month under review is   25.93%.  This was 24.21% in the previous mo= nth and 21.99% during the corresponding month of last year.

  &nb= sp;            = C.  Majority of offences under Dacoity, Robbery, H.B.T. and Thefts have remained undetected.

D.    2 cases of copper wire= theft has been reported this month as against 2 cases in the previous month and 1 case in the corresponding month of last year. 

  &nb= sp;            = E.  The dates by which the crime revie= w for March 2010 was received in SCRB is given at page number 9 'A'.  All Units should send the crime re= view to SCRB by 10th of each month through WAN/e-mail without fail.  If any Unit has problem in sending= the review by WAN/e-mail, DIGP, SCRB should be contacted for necessary guidance= to overcome the problem.
